Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October 1964 is an American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is also the first vice president to be female and highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as also the first African American and second Asian American vice president. She is a member of Congress and a former senator from California. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Her first job was in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was appointed district attorney for San Francisco. In 2010, Harris was appointed Attorney General of California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman to serve in Congress and the first South Asian American American to serve in the United States Senate. As a senator, Harris advocated for health care, federal de-scheduling and the legalization of cannabis which could lead to the citizenship for undocumented immigrants and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. In the news, attention was paid to her sharp questions of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual misconduct.
